    Author Talk: An evening with Lee Child 

    Monday 19 November, 7pm, The Joan Sutherland Preforming Arts Centre 

    Penrith City Library presents an evening with Lee Child at the Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre.

    Lee Child is the internationally bestselling author of The Jack Reacher series. The books have been published in 47 languages and in over 100 countries. Over 100 million books have been sold worldwide.

    Lee will be discussing his heart-stopping new book PAST TENSE in conversation with Candice Fox.

    Penrith City Library Services and Penguin Random House Publishers are the co-sponsors of Lee’s visit.

    Noble work recognised: Penrith City Library remembers the Great War

    Wednesday 21 November

    An evening of reflection to mark the end of the Great War 100 years ago. The evening will be filled with information sharing, remembrance and storytelling. This special evening event will be our way to pay tribute to the five years of service to our country by our local men and women.

    The evening will include:

    • Talk by Steven Ford on researching our family’s military history
    • Talk by Lorraine Stacker, Penrith Librarian and the presentation of the final (1918) Our Fallen booklet to those present. Lorraine will also launch the Library’s publication project Noble work recognised: the City of Penrith remembers the Great War. This publication will be launched October 2019 and will include the biographies of our fallen soldiers, the biographies of our local nurses who served in the war, selected biographies of those who returned, histories of local honor rolls and war memorials and soldier settlements.
    • Talk by Dr Penny Stannard, NSW State Archives Senior Exhibitions Curator on the Windows into Wartime exhibition that will be in Penrith Library from 24 October to 30 November.

    May Gibbs travelling artwork display

    Friday 30 November to 14 December, Penrith Library Lower Lounge during opening hours  

    It’s 100 years since May Gibbs’ adorable characters found their way into the homes and hearts of Australians, and Penrith City Library is celebrating with a free travelling display featuring May Gibbs’ iconic artwork, on from 30 November – 14 December.
    May Gibbs was Australia's first full-time, professionally trained children's book author and illustrator, and the display features reproductions of some of her most beloved characters including the gumnut babies and the brothers Snugglepot and Cuddlepie. 
    According to State Library of NSW Senior Curator Alison Wishart: “Generations of Australians have fond memories of growing up with the gumnut babies and their friends, and passed the books they read as children down to their own children.”

    Tech Savvy Seniors

    We’re living in the digital age, but many Australians are being left behind and lack the skills needed to get connected.  Penrith City Library offers you the opportunity to develop the skills and confidence to use new technology.
    The New South Wales ‘Tech Savvy Seniors’ program is a key initiative of the NSW Ageing Strategy and Telstra’s digital inclusion program. 
    This free training is designed to assist older Australians learn how to confidently and easily master new technology skills.
    Places are limited and fill quickly.
    Ask at our Service Desk for further information about classes.

    Free Learner's Test practice

    Getting ready to become a new driver in NSW? Get ready for your NSW Learner's Test or Driver's Licence Test in no time with simulated practice tests. You can access the test on Penrith City Library's FreeNet PCs, and via remote access from your home PC via the library's online catalogue.

    The practice tests were created specifically for this year's test and were carefully designed by a team of experts to mimic the official learner's test. Choose from 3 free practice tests or view the official NSW driver's manual. Ask at your library's service desk for more details.
