  • Our Re-imagine Ageing initiative is a 2 year project providing opportunities for the active ageing community (over 55s) to remain active - socially, mentally and physically. For more information about Re-imagine Ageing, contact our Active Ageing Projects officer Rosie Smith on email or phone 4732 8244.

Council focuses on creative processes to engage with older residents in new and exciting activities. Some examples of past projects are:

    Never too Old to Flash

A Flash Mob is a seemingly spontaneous music/singing event in a public location with a lot of people. In collaboration with Nordoff Robbins, we held a local flashmob in Westfield Penrith with older people as participants on 23 July 2015. Around 50 people participated.

    Snappy Seniors

Participants learned filming basics, writing a short script, editing and finalising a project. They created a short 2-3 minute digital postcard or video from Penrith. Sessions were held from 29 September to 27 October 2015 on Tuesday mornings in Penrith Library and a screening was held for family and friends.

    Dying to Know workshop
Dying to Know Day is an annual day of action dedicated to bringing to life conversations and community actions around death, dying and bereavement. In collaboration with The Groundswell Project, Council held a workshop discussing 10 things everyone needs to know about death literacy. The workshop was for curious types and those who wanted to know more about breaking down the taboo of death.

    Agile not Fragile

Agile Not Fragile is a contemporary dance project for the young at heart, but not so young of body. Taster sessions were held in November 2014.  Those interested then signed up for a term, starting in January 2015. From this first term series of classes a dance was performed at the Seniors Concert at the Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre.   This video is a snapshot from the classes and performance
We anticipate this will be an ongoing project as a dance group for active older people.

    Memorable Tales

Memorable tales is an exciting creative multimedia stories project for people over 55 years. In 2014, the project ran a series of eight workshops in recording family and local stories, integrating old documents, and learning new technology skills in video production. The project culminated in a screening in December 2014. See a snapshot video of the Memorable tales project here
