Harold Corr Oval in Herbert Street, Cambridge Park, has been upgraded into a high-quality athletics precinct featuring all-weather synthetic track and field facilities – the first of its kind in the Penrith Local Government Area.

Harold Corr Oval features:

  • Synthetic athletics track, certified by World Athletics as a Class 2 facility.
  • 400m eight-lane track.
  • 100m ten-lane front straight.
  • 100m eight-lane back straight.
  • 6 x long jump/triple jump pits (2 x training, 4 x competition).
  • 2 x high jump facilities.
  • Steeplechase water jump facilities.
  • Dual multi directional pole vault runways.
  • 1 x discus cage.
  • 1 x hammer cage / discus cage.
  • 2 x shot put circles.
  • 2 x javelin runways.
  • 200 LUX competition floodlighting and 100 LUX training floodlighting.
  • 65 space carpark, including three accessible car spaces.

Please Note: the following features ONLY are available for general training and community use during daylight hours:

  • 400m track (lanes 3 - 8 ONLY)
  • 100m front straight (lanes 3 – 10 ONLY)
  • 100m back straight (lanes 3 – 8 ONLY)
  • 2 x long jump/triple jump pits
  • 1 x hammer cage / discus cage (under adult supervision)
  • 1 x discus cage
  • 2 x shot put circles
  • 2 x javelin runways

There will be no equipment available onsite for general training or community use, users and coaches are required to bring their own.

Parking

Harold Corr Oval has a 65-space carpark, including three accessible car spaces and street parking is available. The car park entrance is off Herbert Street.

Community Use

Between 4 July and the start of the athletics season in September it is intended that track operations will be ‘tested’ and refined through engagement with users.

General Community Recreation

From 5 July 2023, the community is welcome to use the facility for general athletic recreation and unorganised activities during daylight hours when there are no booked activities or scheduled training taking place. 

Accredited Coaches

Council is taking expressions of interest for track use from Accredited Coaches in the lead up to the athletics season. Access will be allocated for 6-week block prior to the beginning of the summer athletics season starting Monday 24 July 2023. During this time Council will be formalising what access for training looks like for the upcoming athletics season.

School Carnivals

Council is taking expressions of interest for 2024 School Carnivals to be held at Harold Corr Oval synthetic athletics track. Please note in the first instance priority will be given to schools who have used Harold Corr Oval for their school carnivals prior to the upgrades and schools within the Penrith Local Government Area.

Weather Ground Closures

In periods of wet weather, Council provides advice on whether the grounds are open or closed for casual hirers. If grounds are closed, Council will advise hirers accordingly via email. For the latest advice relating to field closures, contact our Wet Weather Line on 4732 8071.

In periods of wet weather, the synthetic track is suitable for use; however, the natural turf elements of the infield may impact some activities from proceeding. Casual hirers will be advised if the infield is closed or not suitable for use.

All users are responsible for conducting a risk assessment to determine the suitability of sports grounds for training, competition, player safety and potential ground damage.

Hirers should consider the weather forecast, any relevant State Sporting Organisation (SSO) weather policies, and the field condition when conducting risk assessments.

If the hirer chooses not to proceed with a booking, they must communicate this to Council, all participants and spectators.

Conditions of Use

All facility users must adhere to the Conditions of Use including prohibited activities, and any Council officer directions to prevent damage and to prolong the life span of the synthetic facility.

The following conditions of use must be adhered to:

  • You enter and use this venue at your own risk
  • All groups and organised sporting activities need to book with Council before use.*
  • Council reserves the right to book the oval at any time.
  • Bookings take precedence; members of the public must vacate the oval during booked activities..
  • Children under the age of 10 years must be closely supervised by an adult (16 years and over)
  • Users must adhere to the separate track specific conditions of use.
  • Hirers are responsible for conducting a risk assessment to determine the suitability of the facility for training & competition. 
  • Approved Footwear ONLY
    • Flat sole surface footwear
    • Spikes must be Christmas Tree or Pyramid conical in shape
      • 7mm Max. for running events
      • 9mm for jump and throw events

The following are not permitted within the synthetic track fencing:

  • No ‘Needle’ spikes
  • No Heeled Shoes
  • No Dogs or Animals
  • No Unauthorised Vehicles
  • No Gym Equipment (including training sleds)
  • No Food, Drink (water permitted) or Chewing Gum
  • No Bikes, Skateboards or Scooters

Fees and Charges

There will be no fees and charges applied to Penrith Local Government area athletics clubs who use the Synthetic Track in 2023-2024.

Fees and charges will be published for school carnival bookings and private coaches in 2023-2024 should these be introduced.

There will be no fees applied for any user before September 2023 as we test and refine the operations of the track

At the time of opening there is no equipment available to hire. Hirers and accredited coaches will need to bring their own athletics specific equipment with them. Please note gym equipment of any kind, including training sleds, are not allowed within the track fencing. Council will be finalising the long-term arrangements for equipment hire for event and school carnivals in 2024 over the coming months.

Personal trainers are not currently able to book or use the synthetic athletics track. Council may review this stance in the future, but please note even if access is provided in the future, gym equipment of any kind cannot be used within the athletics track fencing.

Special events are limited to sporting events, such as carnivals and major championships. Events such as markets, festivals, carols and events with large structures cannot take placed on the synthetic surface.

Council has identified through its Advocacy Priorities that a new universally designed amenity building is required in the next 2 – 3 years to compliment the stage 1 upgrades and anticipated additional community use. The new amenities building will provide upgraded canteen, unisex change rooms, accessible toilets, first-aid and medical room, and multi-purpose room. Further enhancements to the precinct include stage 2 car parking, undercover awning with spectator seating, landscaping and tree planting.
